Katie Couric’s “Under the Gun” Censors, Deceptively Edits Pro-Gun Argument
May 25, 2016Katie Couric and EpixHD came under fire today when a recording released by the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) revealed extensive editing of an interview featured in Couric’s new anti-gun documentary, “Under the Gun”, which is available for free on the Epix streaming service. The segment in question shows an interview Couric held with VCDL in which she asks members of the organization about the efficacy of background checks for gun purchases. In the cut video that is featured in the documentary, the VCDL representatives sit apparently clueless for a painfully long nine seconds. Fortunately, VCDL kept raw audio of the interview and what actually happened is in the video below.
Those who wish to listen to the entire four-minute exchange between Couric and the VCDL can find the full audio on the Washington Free Beacon’s site.
While some gun control supporters have attempted to downplay this as insignificant, it actually undermines the entire documentary and possibly the gun control movement as a whole. In fact, the editing is so egregious that the Washington Post skewered “Under the Gun” for depicting gun owners as “idiots”. Not only does this revelation show that other parts of the piece may be similarly edited, it comes just days after Dr. John Lott complained that his lengthy 4-hour interview with Couric was totally cut from the documentary. The summation of this evidence completely destroys the credibility of “Under the Gun”.
Remember this next time your anti-gun acquaintances and family members lament the lack of civility in the gun control “discussion”.
