Iberian Hunters Spain

During the 2024 DSC Convention and Expo, we had the chance to interview outfitters from around the world and learn about what they offer.

In this interview, Luis Ruiz Del Olmo owner of Iberian Hunters Spain, shares the distinct hunting experiences offered by his outfit in Spain, highlighting a diverse range of game species and tailored hunting methods. He emphasizes personalized accommodations, exceptional success rates, and a deep commitment to conservation and client satisfaction. Luis’s passion for creating unforgettable hunting adventures shines through as he offers a glimpse into the unique offerings of his outfit, from local hunts in Spain to international expeditions.

Jeremy: Luis, could you tell us about the game species your outfit, Iberian Hunters, specializes in?

Luis: Certainly, Spain boasts a rich diversity of game. We have four types of ibex – Gredos and Beceite in the north, Southeastern, and Ronda in the south. We also offer hunts for large fallow deer, red stags, roe deer, and various sheep species like the mouflon. Additionally, we have two chamois varieties and the unique Balearian goat in Majorca.

Jeremy: What hunting methods are used?

Luis: Rifle hunting constitutes about 90% of our hunts, though we also accommodate bow hunting, particularly for ibex, fallow deer, and red stag. Chamois can be challenging but not impossible with a bow.

Jeremy: What accommodations do you provide?

Luis: Our main lodge is in the Pyrenees. In Cantabria, we offer numerous accommodations, as my family runs a vacation rental business. We also have lodges and collaborate with rural or high-star hotels in various hunting locations to ensure the best stay for our hunters.

Jeremy: What’s your most popular hunting package?

Luis: Our Grand Slam Ibex package is highly sought after, especially in the States. It includes the four ibex species and offers a comprehensive tour of Spain’s diverse landscapes.

Jeremy: What’s the success rate for ibex hunting?

Luis: We boast a 100% success rate for ibex, thanks to hunting on private lands and government concessions with year-round scouting.

Jeremy: Any special requirements for American hunters?

Luis: Bringing personal firearms involves some paperwork, but we provide high-caliber rifles to ease this process. Our rifles are top-notch, featuring Swarovski scopes, eliminating the need for clients to bring their own.

Jeremy: Do you tailor hunts to individual skills and physical capabilities?

Luis: Absolutely. We have diverse hunting areas to accommodate varying physical capabilities. We offer options from easy-access locations to more challenging terrains requiring horseback riding or extensive walking.

Jeremy: Are you the guide, or do you have a team?

Luis: I lead the hunts personally for first-time clients to ensure they experience the hunt exactly as I envision. Though I have guides, I find it crucial to be directly involved, especially for new clients.

Jeremy: Do you offer hunts outside of Spain?

Luis: We also organize hunts in Africa (Zimbabwe and South Africa) and Kyrgyzstan, catering to various species from buffalo to the Marco Polo sheep.

Jeremy: Could you speak about your conservation efforts?

Luis: Certainly. We manage our quotas carefully, focusing on older animals to maintain a healthy, sustainable population. Our long-term concessions reflect our commitment to responsible hunting and habitat preservation.

Jeremy: What additional services do you offer, like tours or cultural experiences?

Luis: We offer comprehensive experiences, including sightseeing, cultural activities like flamenco shows or bullfighting, and shopping. Spanish gastronomy is one of the best in the world, with some of the best meats, seafood, “Paellas,” “Tapas,” and wine. A good hunting day is always accompanied by a good “Manchego” cheese, Iberian Ham, and our well-known land wines. We ensure a rich, well-rounded trip for our clients and their companions.

Jeremy: Is this your first time exhibiting at DSC?

Luis: This is my official first full participation. Last year was a last-minute, modest setup, but this year, we’re fully prepared and excited about our presence. I’ll be in Atlanta in 2025 as well.

Jeremy: And finally, why should people consider booking with you?

Luis: My youth and enthusiasm translate into a relentless pursuit of excellence and memorable hunts. We’re not just offering a service; we’re inviting you into our passion and ensuring every hunt is a testament to our dedication.

Jeremy: How can people get in touch with you?

Luis: We’re active on social media, especially Instagram, and have all our contact information, including phone and email, on our website, Iberian Hunters.
