Want to Preserve Hunting Globally? Support the DSC

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the DSC convention is going virtual. Please watch the video above as it explains the importance of supporting the DSC auction now more than ever.

Under normal circumstances, the Dallas Safari Club Convention is one the largest global gatherings of hunters, conservationists, and outfitters and one of the best opportunities to find everything you need to create your dream hunt. What makes the Dallas Safari Club Convention & Sporting Expo so unique — the chance to meet outfitters and experts from every continent face-to-face — isn’t happening in person this year.

But not all is lost, as this year’s online event will turn this already large-scale event into something even bigger than before. Hunters and outfitters who may not otherwise be able to afford the travel costs to Dallas, Texas can gather in a single online hub and take full advantage of the learning, the vendors, and the DSC’s renowned Auction.

This event is the single biggest fundraiser for the DSC, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants to support vital conservation, advocacy, and education work that helps ensure a secure future for hunters and conservationists worldwide.

Amazing Accomplishments

The video below reinforces the DSC auction’s importance by highlighting some of the amazing work the DSC Foundation does annually. The interview we conducted was eye-opening as we discovered how much the Foundation empowers the DSC to fulfill its mission of Conservation, Education, and Advocacy

Richard Cheatham, Executive Director for the DSC Foundation explains how the organization serves as the giving and the receiving arm of the DSC. They take in tax-deductible donations and, through a rigorous and extensive grant-making process, disperse the donations to thoroughly-vetted organizations that promote wildlife conservation and well-regulated hunting.

“This allows us to tell the world, ‘this is what hunters’ dollars do,'” Cheatham said. “That’s one of those messages we didn’t think was being told, that hunting really is conservation.”

The DSC Foundation supports the overall mission of the organization by promoting and conducting science-based research that supports sustainable-use wildlife conservation and hunting. They also maintain a library of primary and secondary research relating to wildlife conservation which they make available to the public. The foundation also develops educational programs that promote the concept and benefits of sustainable-use wildlife conservation and well-regulated hunting globally, and they provide grants and partnerships to other charitable, educational, and governmental organizations pursuing the same or similar goals.

The mission of the DSC Frontline Foundation is to provide financial relief to professional hunters and their assistants who are killed or seriously injured in the course of providing professional hunting services or anti-poaching activities. The mission of the foundation includes a separate anti-poaching fund to provide financial relief to government employees killed while engaged anti-poaching activities.

In order for DSC to continue this vital work, they have set up the 2021 Reflections Virtual Auction to raise funds. Unlike previous years when only Expo attendees were able to place bids, anyone around the world can now participate. But, in order to place a bid on one of the top-shelf hunts or gear, you have to sign up. Check out the “How To” video or read the  instructions below.

How To

It’s a great idea to set up an account early so you can browse through all of the auction items available and have a game plan ready when the bidding begins. You don’t want to miss your chance at a great deal on a dream hunt, or at the opportunity to support the worthy and worthwhile work of the Dallas Safari Club.

Go to dsc.onlinehuntingauctions.com to register for the virtual auction, which runs from February 10-14. You can also get to the sign-up page by clicking on the “2021 Virtual Auction” tab on the DSC homepage. Click on “Register-Bid-Live Streaming,” and then click again on “Get Approved to Bid.” Fill out your information, and enter a payment method. Be sure to select your email and text message preferences to get notifications for the auctions. Look for a confirmation link in your email to confirm your notification preferences.

Now you can browse through all the items or screen out which items you want to see using filters and keywords. You’ll see buttons to place a bid, bookmark an item, see more details about an item, or get notifications when the item closes.

There’s also an option to place bids by phone by calling the DSC office at 972-908-9800. Bids can be placed in advance of the auction and updated during the live auction by calling the number. If you have questions about making bids by phone call – you guessed it – the number and ask to talk with Lori, who will guide you through the process.
