The Lockdown Puck Can Protect Your Guns And Other Valuables

Attach it to your safe or mount it on a door, lid or drawer. The Lockdown Puck is a wireless, portable security device that you control with your smart phone via a Wi-Fi connection. It’s about the size of a hockey puck, although it’s more square than round.

First you download the free Lockdown Logic app. Then, wherever you happen to be, you can get alerts from the Puck security device by phone. If someone is attempting to tamper with your gun safe or ammo locker or has breached the wrong door or opened the wrong drawer, you will know about it.

The Puck Gives You Several Types Of Alerts

When mounted in your gun safe or ammo locker, the Lockdown Puck’s motion sensor will trigger a phone alert if someone even jostles the door or lid.

Mount the Puck portable security device on a door and the included magnetic sensor near it on the door frame. If someone opens the door and breaks the magnetic field, the Puck sounds an audible alarm and you will get an alert on your phone.

Set the temperature and humidity ranges and the Puck will alert you if the inside of your safe might be subject to another threat: corrosion.

You can receive notifications from the Puck by SMS, text or e-mail.

The Lockdown Puck measures just 3 x 3 x 1 inches and can be used in a variety of ways for security monitoring through your smart phone.

Everything You Need Is Included

The Puck runs on either the four included AA alkaline batteries or can be powered from the nine-foot cord that will fit a standard USB power adapter. If you do use the batteries, there’s a power-saver mode on the unit and you can check the battery status on your phone. Also included with the Puck are a mounting bracket, hardware and magnetic door sensor.

Easy To Set Up And Easy To Use

I decided to put the Lockddown Puck to the test myself by mounting it in one of my gun safes.

There weren’t any instructions in the box. At first, that would seem to be a crisis for a technology-challenged old-timer like me. But once I downloaded the Lockdown Logic app, I found easy step-by-step instructions that walked me through connecting the app to the Puck device and then setting up the device itself.

If you have problems you can check the Puck Support on the Lockdown website at www.lockdown.com/support/.

For door security, you have to mount the Puck and magnetic sensor close to each other, one on the door and the other on the frame. I discovered there wasn’t a good place for me to permanently screw the Puck mount or sensor inside my particular safe. So, I used some two-sided tape that I had on hand.

The kit includes a couple different adapters for locating the magnetic sensor close to the Puck unit. For this particular setup, I found it easier to mount the Puck to an inside wall of my safe and the magnetic sensor on the door. With the safe door closed, the sensor was positioned directly above the Puck.

It was easy to set the temperature and humidity ranges from the phone app. For use in a safe, the recommendations are for temperatures between 65 and 70 degrees F and relative humidity of 45 to 50 percent. I armed the system from the phone app as well. You do have the option, however, to arm the system manually at the unit. You then have seven seconds to close the door.

I rattled the safe door and I received an alert on my phone. After resetting the system, I opened the safe door and I was alerted again. The audible alert coming from the unit itself wasn’t very loud. But with alerts also coming directly to your phone, I don’t know that a louder tone was needed.

Many Other Uses

With a little imagination, you can set up the Puck in many different ways. Use it on a desk drawer or jewelry box.

Take it with you on vacation to monitor when someone enters your hotel room. You could set one up in a vehicle door, inside a glove compartment or under-seat lockbox as well.

Several Puck wireless security devices can be controlled from the same app. The suggested retail price of the Lockdown Puck is $109.99. That’s a small price for peace of mind.
