ScentLok OZ Radial EZ and Radial Nano Test & Review

Like most hunters, I look for a way to get an edge in the field. When I first saw the OZ products by ScentLok I was interested, but a little skeptical. I have seen products that some hunters use in the field to create a blanket of ozone so that animals can’t pick up their scent, but there was no way for me to know if they actually worked, or if it was just hype. I decided to find out for myself whether the hype was actually something to get excited about after all.

Scentlok’s OZ units are for use pre- and post-hunt. We’re not quite into deer season, so I haven’t been able to ascertain their effectiveness for field gear. However, I did use the OZ Radial units around the house, and I have to say — there’s no question that they will keep my gear scent-free when I move to the field.

About

The OZ Radial units from ScentLok come in two versions: the Radial EZ and Radial Nano. While both produce ozone that destroys odors, mold, mildew, and fungus, there are some differences between the two. The Radial EZ is the larger unit and has a detachable battery, while the Radial Nano is the smaller unit for on-the-go use. With both of these on-hand, the possible uses are limitless.

Both units feature 360-degree ozone emission for complete coverage wherever you are using it. As you saw in the video, they are both super-quiet and do not have any audible clicks when operating the button.

Both are simple to use, too. The single button on the front of the unit controls all operations. You just push the button to cycle through to the length of time and amount of coverage you need, and the unit kicks in. Once the cycle is complete, the unit shuts off automatically.

Uses

I tested the OZ Radials in a variety of locations, and they performed better than I expected. The first test was the laundry room where we keep the cat litter box. In 20 minutes, there wasn’t even a trace of cat litter smell. All of the stench was gone. It’s like cats didn’t even exist in that space!

It really surprised me how the OZ Radial EZ worked so quickly and effectively. You need just 10-20 minutes in any room or space, and you will destroy the odor.

Another big plus for me — these units are totally chemical free, so you won’t have to worry about your kids or pets interacting with something that you’ve used with one of these units. However, I do need to point out that you should not stay inside a space where the OZ Radial is in use, because your body is designed to breathe oxygen, not ozone.

Finally, these gadgets run off of battery power, so they are totally portable. The OZ Radial Nano has a battery life of five hours while the OZ Radial EZ will run for eight hours before it needs to be recharged.

Additionally, both units have micro USB ports to charge mobile devices, which, of course, will reduce the overall battery runtime for the unit itself. But if you’re out in the field for a few hours and your phone’s about to die, this makes a very convenient feature. I would have liked to see a USB-C on the front for faster charging but that is my only complaint. On the Radial EZ, the battery is detachable so you can have multiple batteries and trade them out when needed. Extra batteries run $99 each.

The shape of the OZ Radial is a well-thought-out design. It is a cylinder shape that fits into a variety of places, including most cup holders. On the bottom of the unit, you’ll find a spot to add a lanyard to hang the device from a tree branch, for example. I can think of several different locations you could hang the unit, even for storage if shelf-space is lacking. However, since the lanyard comes out of the bottom of the unit, if you wanted to stand it up on a flat surface with the lanyard attached, the unit will wobble.

Final Thoughts

I plan on using the OZ Radial this hunting season to help with scent control. The OZ products are designed for maximum versatility, so they can serve every aspect of your lifestyle, from the home to the outdoors, pets, athletic gear, work environments, and vehicles, and they work.
