Rugged Suppressors Releases 9mm Obsidian

Following the immense success of their modular Obsidian 45, it was only a matter of time before they gave it a 9mm little brother. Just announced, the Obsidian 9 follows in the footsteps of its bigger sibling by offering two configurable lengths, stainless steel baffles, and the same non-slotted pistons as the Obsidian 45.

The full specs are below:

CALIBER: Full Auto Rated for Pistol Calibers up-to 9mm and 300BLK Subsonic.

DIAMETER: 1.37″

LENGTH:  Standard Configuration: 6.8″, Short Configuration: 4.85″

WEIGHT: Standard Configuration: 12.7oz; Short Configuration: 8.7oz

FINISH: Hard Coat Anodized and fully Cerakoted

BAFFLES: 17-4 Stainless Steel

TUBE: Hard Coat Anodized Aluminum

MOUNT: 17-4 Stainless Steel

MSRP: $799

Based solely on my experience with the Obsidian 45 and knowing a bit about suppressor design, the Obsidian 9 looks like it will be a superb performer. However, I am a little surprised to see that even at roughly two inches shorter than the Obsidian 45, the 9mm version’s full configuration still weighs approximately the same. This could be because the baffles at least appear to be more tightly packed inside the Obsidian 9’s tube as the product photos seem to show baffles with significantly shorter skirts than the .45 edition. In the short configuration, the Obsidian 9 should handle extremely well at 4.85” in length and with an overall weight of just 8.7 ounces.

Aside from the size, the Obsidian 9 uses the same pistons and mounts as the Obsidian 45, so shooters with Rugged’s 3-lug and fixed barrel mounts should have no problem using their existing parts. The can also retains compatibility with SilencerCo pistons, which should be a bonus for those looking to jump brands.

As always Modern Rifleman will be working to get the 9mm Obsidian in for review as soon as possible. Until then, be sure to head on over to Rugged’s site for the full details and additional photos.
