Ruger PC Charger Pistol Debuts In 9mm

Sturm, Ruger and Company has introduced a pistol version of their popular PC Carbine. The first model of the Ruger PC Charger Pistol is chambered in 9mm Luger.

The Ruger PC Charger Pistol features the same dead-blow action. It incorporates a tungsten weight that shortens bolt travel and reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise as well. The bolt itself is machined from chrome-moly steel.

PC Charger Offers Magazine Compatibility

Like the carbine, the pistol features interchangeable magazine wells so that it can feed from popular pistol mags. It ships with two magazine wells. One accepts SR-Series and Security-9 pistol mags. The other accepts Glock magazines. One SR-Series 17-round magazine is included.

A third magazine well, for compatibility with Ruger American pistol mags, is available at ShopRuger.com. All of the mag wells are flared at the base for fast, easy reloading.

The Ruger PC Charger Pistol features a threaded barrel, and M-LOK slots on the handguard.

PC Charger Pistol Is Accessory Ready

The pistol features a machined aluminum receiver that is hard-coat anodized for durability. There’s an integral Picatinny-style rail on top of the receiver. It provides ample room to mount a variety of optics. (The pistol has no iron sights.) Another section of Picatinny-style rail at the rear of the receiver allows for the mounting of an arm brace.

The fiberglass-filled polymer chassis includes an ergonomic pistol grip. But the pistol also accepts standard AR grips. QD cups are installed at the rear for the addition of Magpul quick-disconnect sling swivels.

The CNC-milled aluminum handguard incorporates Magpul M-LOK-compatible slots at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. That allows for easy mounting of M-Lok rails and accessories. A factory-installed handstop at the 6 o’clock position keeps the support hand in position.

You can add an arm brace or swap the pistol grip for a standard AR type.

PC Charger Provides Well-Conceived Features

Both the magazine release button and the charging handle on the Ruger PC Charger Pistol are reversible. I shoot right-handed. One of the first things I did when I bought my PC Carbine was to switch the charging handle to the left side. Then I could operate the handle easily while maintaining a normal hold on the firearm. Hex wrenches are included so you can swap mag wells or reverse the position of the charging handle.

The cold hammer-forged barrel of chrome-moly steel is 6.5 inches long with rifling in a 1:10-inch right-hand twist. The muzzle is threaded (½-inch x 28) for attaching a suppressor or muzzle brake. A thread protector is included if no accessory is attached to the muzzle.

Ruger PC Charger Pistol Has Easy Takedown

The barrel and fore-end assembly of the pistol detaches quickly for easy transportation or storage. To disassemble the pistol, you merely lock the bolt back and confirm that the gun is unloaded. Push the recessed lever underneath, then twist and pull the sub-assemblies apart.

The pistol comes with mag wells for both Ruger SR-9 and Glock magazines.

For those in restricted states, a second model of the Ruger PC Charger Pistol is available with a 10-round magazine. The suggested retail price on each model is $799. For more information, go to Ruger.com.
