Rebel Silencers’ New Tubeless, Select-A-Size Suppressor
Unless you hopped on one of their $99 .22 LR suppressors, you’ve probably never heard of them before, but the folks at Rebel Silencers (the same people who operate 199trust.com) have announced a new 5.56mm silencer that features no tube and can be configured in five (that’s right, five) different lengths.
The new can dubbed the SOS-556 weighs 21 ounces and measures 8″ long in its full-length configuration. It features ported, conical baffles with threaded skirts that allow each baffle to thread onto the one before it, forming a full baffle stack. I’ve seen similar designs from European manufacturers, but the SOS-556 is a first for the American market. For those who are curious, the can is made entirely of 17-4 stainless steel, and it is exclusively a thread mount suppressor.
The company claims that the silencer is capable of 33 dB of sound reduction, achieved using the full-length configuration. Looking at the baffles, I assume that kind of performance is possible, but until these reach independent testers, take the advertised numbers with a grain of salt.
As impressive as the design is the fact that Rebel Silencers is selling the SOS-556 for just $299. That’s cheap for any suppressor, but for one that offers this sort of adaptability, it’s unheard of.
