Griffin Armament’s New Lineup Marks a Major Shift for the Company

As some of you may have seen, Griffin Armament is currently in the process of revamping almost every rifle suppressor in their lineup. While this is not the first time the company has made improvements or revised their products, it is a significant departure from their previous strategy. Observant readers will recognize that suppressors like the Recce 5 Mod 3 and Recce 7 Mod 3 are, in fact, the third versions of the popular quick attach cans. So what happened to Mod 2? Why was there no fanfare over the first set of revisions?

In the past, Griffin Armament has chosen not to publicly announce or detail changes to their suppressors. This has led to some confusion regarding performance numbers and weight expectations. When the second generation Recce suppressors came out, Griffin managed to improve performance by a considerable amount, but many shooters had no idea that the changes had taken place. Second-generation Recce cans look identical to their first-generation brothers. The generational differences frustrated potential buyers and led to some confusion on popular firearms forums.

Curious, I asked Griffin Armament’s Evan Green about the policy. According to him, the company did not want to annoy potential customers and irritate previous buyers with constant revisions. In his mind, the choice to avoid generational announcements afforded Griffin more flexibility with improvements over the lifecycle of a product.

The new Recce Mod 3 series and SD Mod 4 suppressors mark a significant departure from Griffin’s old strategy. Not only have the names changed, but the new generations also look quite a bit different than their predecessors. Particularly intriguing are the new “flutes” that cover the outside of the new M4-SDIIM4-SDK, and 30-SD suppressors. Furthermore, Griffin has managed to squeeze out additional performance gains from both series of cans. For those wondering, the new suppressors are entirely made of durable 17-4 stainless steel.

The new versions should be available at stocking dealers now or in the very near future and will carry the same MSRP as previous versions.
