Walther Unveils PPQ M2 Steel Carry

PPQ Steel Header

The PPQ Steel Compact is a throwback to a simpler time. A time when semi-automatic pistols were made of German and American steel. A time when having a pistol with a magazine capacity over seven rounds was seen as a technical marvel.

Steel frames gave way to polymer ones, and 15-round capacity became normal for mid-sized handguns. Progress is ever-moving forward, with new guns becoming more affordable, and ammunition tech is increasing the efficacy of rounds previously considered anemic.

PPQ Steel Grip
Walther's PPQ Steel series of handguns use hexagonal grip panels.

But while magazine capacities have increased, and the use of polymers has decreased overall weight, something special was left behind; The soft-shooting, ultra-rugged steel frame pistol.

Thankfully, the creators of the iconic PPK, and P-38 aren’t content with the status quo. So last year they released a steel-framed version of their popular PPQ M2 pistols, the PPQ M2 Steel Match. And while the Steel Match is a solid competition or home defense pistol, it is a little too large for most shooters to reasonably conceal.

In response, the engineers at Walther developed the PPQ M2 Steel Carry. The Carry is a mid-sized, striker-fired semi-automatic 9mm handgun. It feeds from PPQ-style stagger-column box magazines, and reportedly ships with two in the box.

Having shot the new PPQ Steel Carry, I can say with certainty that any shooter who picks one up will be very pleased not just with its construction, but also accuracy and very soft recoil impulse.

PPQ Dust Cover
The new PPQ Steel Carry features a railed dust cover for mounting lights, lasers or whatever a shooter desires.

Further cementing its role as a defense handgun, the new Steel M2 Carry features a railed dust cover, extended slide release for faster reloads, and dovetailed iron sights. The last feature is especially useful for shooters looking to replace the existing sights with other options they might prefer.

If the previous steel-framed PPQ match is any indication, this new pistol should be a hit with Walther fans, and shooters in general. Fore more information, visit https://waltherarms.com/
