Trijicon Announces the Ventus

Learning to accurately read the wind is one of the most challenging aspects of long range, precision shooting. A 10mph breeze might seem insignificant when shooting at 100yards, at 1000 yards it can mean missing a target by several feet – even with a quality optic like those from Trijicon.

Because of this, countless companies have come up with various products that attempt to measure wind velocity for the shooter with varying degrees of success. Most rely on a small turbine which measures wind velocity at the shooter’s position based on its RPMs. But the engineers at Trijicon wanted something better. So they teamed up with Precision Sports Technologies (PST) to develop something better – the Ventus.

The Trijicon Ventus is the world’s first advanced wind-mapping and range-detecting handheld device. Powered by WindPro Technology, the Ventus can measure three-dimensional wind velocities at multiple distances up to 500 yards in front of the user and range real-world targets up to 5,000 yards for accurate shooting at extreme distances.

Aerospace Origins

PST is a spin-off of Optical Air Data Systems (OADS), an aerospace defense company with more than three decades of experience. With this knowledge base available to them, PST and Trijicon were able to develop a state of the art handheld range-finder that utilizes doppler radar to measure wind speed not only at the shooter’s position, but at the target’s position and anywhere in between. Check out the video below for details.

The Ventus comes in two models: Ventus and Ventus X. In addition to the downrange wind and extreme ranging performance of the Ventus, the Ventus X adds a state-of-the-art ballistics solver. An onboard sensor suite captures all necessary data—range, wind, atmospheric temperature, stratospheric pressure, and incline angle—to provide improved first-round-hit probability to hunters and shooter.

The Ventus X also communicates via Bluetooth to the advanced Trijicon Ballistic application. The app provides the user with expanded capability such as geo-location, wind maps, range tables, and reticle holdover views.

Incredible. The new Ventus takes all the guesswork out of reading the wind at range, and it comes from a company known for making soldier-proof optics that take a beating and keep on trucking. The video states that the Ventus won’t be available until the second half of 2020, but hopefully they’ll have one available at SHOT for media folks to handle. Stay tuned for more information and coverage of SHOT Show 2020. Visit www.Trijicon.com for pricing and availability.
