Northland Announces New Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon

Looking to put more fish on the ice? Look no further than Northland Fishing Tackle’s new Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon, a wonder on walleyes and other gamefish species. Based on extensive beta-testing last ice season, the Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon is sure to be this season’s hottest minnow-imitating jigging spoon!

While the new Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon is molded from metal, it features a realistic and translucent “Glass” baitfish pattern. A noisy, high-pitched glass rattle chamber—something the fish haven’t heard before—in tandem with the highly-reflective patterns lures fish in from a wide radius. It thumps, ticks, clicks, and clatters and rings an immediate dinner bell for jumbo perch, slab crappies, walleyes, bass, trout, and pike. The way it flutters, flashes, and rattles entices fish to investigate and bite…

Available in 3/32-, 1/8-, and ¼-ounce, there are a host of 10 colors, including Silver Shiner, Glo White, Super-Glo Perch, Green Perch, Super-Glo Chub, Hot Blue Chub, Pink Silver, Silver Fluorescent Chartreuse, Golden Perch, and Super-Glo Redfish

Northland pro-Brian “Bro” Brosdahl is a longtime fan of the Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon, Bro Bug Spoon, and Buckshot Coffin Spoon—having put literally thousands of fish on the ice thanks to the unique action of each—but says the new Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon occupies its own special niche with its high-pitched rattle and translucent, glassy finish.

“The Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon is going to be a hot bait this winter. I had the chance to fish them last season, and I caught numerous 27-inch to 29-inch walleyes that would have just swum by other baits that they’ve been conditioned to. They just hammered it. Almost all my big walleyes and jumbo perch came on the Glass Buck-Shot last winter. It calls them in from afar and makes them angry,” notes Brosdahl.

Brosdahl says where the Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon really excels is in pressured fishing situations with a lot of anglers on the ice. “I was using it at a Northland photo shoot and was in the center of a group of anglers trying to catch walleyes. Everybody was using something different, and it was my Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon that iced the ‘over’ of the day—a 28 ½-inch beauty. My experience was that even with neutral- to negative fish, that glassy flash, unique fall, flutter, shake, and high-pitched rattle can trigger bigger and pressured fish to bite,” says Brosdahl.

“The other thing,” says Brosdahl, “it’s a real multi-species slayer. Everything eats it. It’s all about your jigging cadence. Just a quick shake to get things moving and then a sweep gets the color out there. It’s a great-looking lure. It’s glossy, refracts the smallest amount of light, and deadly on pot-bellied perch and big crappies.”

Brosdahl adds: “From the very first time I tied it on through the course of last year’s ice season, I caught everything on it, to the point it was hard to fish my other go-to baits. It iced a load of fish. There’s a size to match whatever you’re fishing; case in point, the 3/32-ounce caught slab crappies; I fished the 1/8-ounce for jumbo perch; and the ¼-ounce for walleyes, although I did size down to 1/8-ounce on Red Lake. I also used it on Lake of the Woods, Leech Lake, Cass Lake, all-around the Bemidji area, and all points in between and it performed fantastically no matter where I fished.”

In terms of colors, Bro’s favorites are Super-Glo Perch and other perch patterns, but says it’s a narrow victory over Super-Glo Redfish and Pink Silver. “All the colors catch fish—you’ve just gotta grab an assortment and see what works where you fish,” says Brosdahl. “I also tip the Glass Buck-Shot with a small minnow head or some waxies, just enough meat so it doesn’t interfere with the rattle and flash—but I also caught plenty of fish with the spoon without any bait, too. Let the fish tell you what they want.”

Ultimately, the Northland Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon is that new ice bait no angler should leave home without. Brosdahl concludes, “It’s going to catch fish everywhere across the Ice Belt. My advice? Get out and fish an assortment of them for different species—and carry an assortment of different sizes and colors with you to match-the-hatch or wow them with color. You will be glad you did.”

Glass Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon MSRP: $9.99, 1 per card; $24.99, 3 per card.
