New CZ 527 American Synthetic Suppressor-Ready

CS-USA announced the new CZ 527 American Synthetic Suppressor-Ready rifle to the 527 line.

The 527 is the smallest of CZ-USA’s centerfire platforms. What some people might not know is that the CZ 527 has won more awards in European “light rifle” categories than any other rifle. Designed specifically for small-base centerfire calibers, all CZ 527’s come standard with a controlled round feed, a detachable single-stack steel magazine, a cold-hammer-forged barrel, and integral 16mm dovetails.

Built on a 223-length action, the 527 Suppressor Ready uses a micro-length Mauser push-feed action. It is available in four calibers–.223 Rem., 6.5 Grendel, 300 BLK, and 7.62×39. All caliber models have a short 16.5-inch barrel, threaded at 5/8×24 for a suppressor or brake.

As the name suggests the new 527 uses a synthetic stock with a textured surface. The standard hunting stock fare of two sling studs and a rubber butt pad round it out.

All CZ 527’s use the CZ Single Set Trigger or SST and the new Suppressor Ready is no exception. The SST allows for both a standard hunting trigger and a light target trigger in the same rifle. In regular use, the SST trigger is in the “standard” mode with the heavier of the two trigger pulls. But, by simply pushing the trigger forward until it clicks, the crisp, light target trigger mode is set. The standard trigger is adjustable for weight, creep and overtravel. The set target trigger function is only adjustable for weight.

Why This Matters

The new CZ 527 Suppressor Ready is clearly aimed at the hunting market. The new addition of the threaded barrel shows the ever growing popularity of the use of silencers. Additionally this is a smart move from CZ since they now have a suppressor lineup and their rifles need to accommodate the accessories that they are making.

Having 4 different calibers give this rifle a wider appeal. There is the .223 for varmint hunters and the other calibers from deer and hog hunters. The 6.5 Grendel seems like an odd choice but since this is a micro action there are not many calibers to choose from that would fit the action.

The value of the rifle seems reasonable as well since it is only $14 MSRP higher than the standard 527. On the aftermarket having the barrel threaded would run you around $100. Additionally the short barrel is handy for many hunting scenarios and is a nice touch. If you haven’t used a short bolt gun it will spoil you especially if you add a silencer to the end.

The SST is a nice touch for a hunting rifle. The ability to set the trigger to make longer or precise shoots is appealing. In actual hunting situations I’m not sure how much it would be used but it certainly doesn’t hurt.
