Unleashing Precision and Convenience: The Last Chance Archery EZ Green Bow Press Review

If you have been shooting long enough, then you understand the foundation of a successful shot lies not only in practice and patience, but also in the meticulous tuning and maintenance of your bow. This is where a reliable bow press comes into play. The Last Chance Archery EZ Green Bow Press is an excellent option. In this review, we’ll delve into the features, functionality, and versatility of the EZ Green Bow Press, exploring the ways you can use it to fine-tune your equipment and enhance your overall hunting experience.

I wanted to check out the EZ Press so I could be more self-reliant and do all my bow maintenance without leaving my bow in the shop for extended periods of time, or being without a solution in the backcountry.  Some of the options you have when you have your own press include:

  • Draw Length Adjustment: Achieving the perfect draw length is essential for consistent shooting form and accuracy.
  • String and Cable Replacement: Strings and cables experience wear and tear over time, affecting both accuracy and safety.
  • Cam and Limb Maintenance: Properly maintained cams and limbs contribute to smooth draws and reliable shots.
  • Peep Sight Installation: The precise installation of a peep sight enhances accuracy by establishing a consistent sight picture.

LCA, a veteran-owned company, proudly manufactures this press in the U.S.A. You can tell they’ve prioritized durability and reliability, leaving no room for shortcuts in this department.  The press itself appears to be primarily made from solid, thick square tubing with a nice green paint finish.  At first glance, the crank handle that comes with the EZ press doesn’t seem as nice as the other models or upgrades have to offer, but it is very smooth, turns well, and does the job if you are looking for a more affordable press.  The fingers are machined aluminum and equipped with rubber ends which keep the fingers from scratching up your bow limbs.  Pertaining to the press itself, it can operate from 25 and 48 inches, axle to axle, which fits great for my compound bows.

Getting Started with the EZ Green Press

Out of the box, the EZ Green Press comes with:

  • The press
  • 4 lag bolts
  • 1 draw stop finger
  • 4 LCA-patented bow press fingers
  • 4 washers
  • A warning sheet.

Once you have your press opened, be sure to read that warning sheet before you get started.  One thing they mention is to be aware of the metal flashings under the finger systems.  The flashings are very sharp, so be careful when handling, and try not to bend those.

To get started, you’ll need to mount your press.  LCA offers a floor stand option for mounting your bow press which you can also find on their site, but the press is equipped with built-in, standard height, bench mounts.  So, you have options. It all depends on how you want your setup.

As mentioned, you’ll find lag bolts and washers with your order so you can mount your press to a workbench, and honestly, they give you some super-duty lag bolts.  You won’t have to worry about not having the right bolts to secure to any wooden bench.  It’s perfect for both a home or shop setup.

For me, I needed versatility—whether it was for the workshop’s convenience or for emergency bow fixes in the backcountry. So I decided to create a hitch mount for the press.  I wish I could take the credit, but my brother, Dallas, went the extra mile and crafted this custom hitch stand for my truck, providing a sturdy base to mount the press directly.  The setup is perfect for me.  The press has no issues after being mounted, the height is perfect, and it allows for comfort and ease when operating the press.  All in all, it took about ten minutes to mount and assemble after the hitch mount was built.

Using Your Bow Press

I was impressed with the simplicity and effectiveness of the EZ Green Bow Press.  This press has a user-friendly design which allows for quick setup and use. LCA has some great tutorial videos on their website.  I recommend checking those out, especially if is your first press.

The hand crank is simple and setup perfectly to allow for adjustments when applying pressure to your bow.  There are different types of handles available for other models, including some that use a motor and foot pedal drive, but the hand crank is great for consumer use.  If you are a bow shop pressing multiple bows every day, you may consider one of the upgraded models LCA has to offer.  If you are like me, and will be using it for individual use, the hand crank is perfect.

LCA’s patented finger system really sets this press apart from the competition.  It allows the bow to be drawn back just as if you were shooting it.  The way they do this is by using thumb screws to allow for micro adjustments to the limb contact.  This ensures that you are applying equal pressing to all your limbs and prevents you from damaging or torquing your bow when you start to press.  Super versatile.

Installing the fingers is super simple.  Make sure the thumb screws are backed out, then push the metal flashing down and slide them onto the pegs.  That’s it. Once you have the fingers installed, you can adjust the starting position of the fingers to the bow you are pressing by using the thumb screws.

I started with my Mathews bow.  Turns out, the half-moon adapters on the Mathews bow limbs fit perfectly into the finger system’s ends.  I was able to slide the bow in with ease to get started.   You can, of course, press different bows, but the Mathews half-moon combined with their finger setup is solid.  Once the fingers were in place, I adjusted the thumb screws and was able to safely press my bow.

For other bows which may have a draw stop, like an Elite bow, LCA gives you one draw stop finger with the press.  The draw stop finger lets you press bows where the draw stop gets in the way of the normal curved finger without removing the stops. This is huge.

Jonathan Clark of LCA does some great tutorial videos on how to use the draw stops. He shows just how easy it is to remove the curved fingers and set up the press with the draw stop fingers.  In the instance that you would need an additional draw stop finger, LCA has some you can purchase on their website.

EZ Green Press - Pros and Cons

All in all, I am impressed with the LCA EZ Press.  I wanted a quality product that was a reliable and affordable option for the individual consumer. Last Chance Archery delivers just that with the EZ Press.  As an archer who values precision and performance, I recommend giving the LCA EZ Press a look.

The manufacturing of this product is outstanding and makes it very easy to get started doing your own bow maintenance, especially with all the online content they have put together for their customers.  While the hand crank takes a lot of turns to move the press, and it only comes with one draw stop out of the box, this press is exactly what I needed for my setup, and I look forward to expanding my DIY potential.  Give the EZ Press a good look; it’s a tool that’s bound to enhance your bow-hunting experience and your capabilities as an archer.
